Times and Seasons: God is sovereign over all. So, why Donald Trump for the US presidency when so many in America and across the world despise him?
The simple answer is that God wants him in office. Why? Because he supports Christian freedom of speech, and many of the things Christians fight for, the right to life of the fetus being the greatest of issues.
That’s the simple answer.
I believe it goes deeper. God goes deep, doesn’t He?
I believe Trump exposes the deceit and control of an elite class and the media.
In his rudeness, he exposes the hypocrisy and rudeness of the elite and the media bias.
Some Christian circles have been saying Trump is a Cyrus for our times ( Christian Post ), King Cyrus being the historic pagan king who enabled the Jewish people to return to their homeland after 70 years of exile ( King Cyrus of Ancient Persia ). I agree that is possible. But there is something as important.
Donald Trump is fearless.
While perfect love casts out all fear, and Trump does not – at least on the surface – appear to be loving, fear is certainly how the enemy manages to control the words and actions of people who live in fear.
Trump does not appear to live in fear. He battles back at those who reproach him. There might be a better way, but for now, this is who the man is. He draws contention but does not fear it.
And in fact, if he is sincere, as he claims, to be acting for the benefit of “the people” then his reactionary contentious nature, while often unpalatable, is a means of protecting the rights of “the people” who have been silenced, duped, coerced and forced into accepting socialist liberal agenda for years, under the guise of political correctness and an anti-racist/anti-gay banner.
The elite, with their hidden agendas, won’t admit their schemes to global domination in business and culture. The media either are too naive to see they are being played, or are in on the schemes. And Donald Trump, like the large faction of sincere Christians worldwide who see the anti-Christ in the liberal agenda, won’t cooperate with it.
There are Believers who don’t see the schemes. I don’t understand that, but I don’t think it makes them less Christian. God reveals to whom He will reveal. Nevertheless I see it, and a huge proportion of Christians, by the power of His Holy Spirit, see it.
As for Donald Trump? We don’t know to what degree he is a Christian. That is really between the man and God. But he certainly has been given the eyes to see the reality of what is going on against the Judeo-Christian culture on which the Americas and Europe were built, the courage to fight against it, and the platform in which to do so.
Why Donald Trump?
God has allowed him the office of the President of the United States in order to
- free Christians from “captivity”,
- battle against a force of evil that is self-interested, self-righteous, and self-glorifying, all in the name of human rights and ultimately,
- bring the Lord closer to his return.
What should we do?
Pray. Pray for the leader of the United States: pray for his protection and the protection of his family, pray for his relationship with God, and pray for those who would have ears to hear and eyes to see the workings of God through him in these days.
Shalom.

I welcome your post Sarah at a time when the media are encouraging the populations of the world to turn towards anarchy. AND THOSE JUDGES WERE NOT APPOINTED TO RUN THE USA!!! Moreover, it has, sadly, become an apparently essential ingredient for American entertainers to incorporate the mocking of President Trump into their performances – a trend set by Meryl Streep at a recent awards ceremony which has been picked up by those in the same industry who consider that they have to copy this so-called icon. However, Ms. Streep set an example which is wrong, highly inappropriate and totally unnecessary. It is also totally unfair on those who have paid hard earned money to be entertained – not to listen to someone else’s political viewpoints. There are plenty of alternative platforms available for that kind of activity.
Recently I attended a superb concert in Dublin by Mary Chapin Carpenter who degraded her own otherwise impeccable musical performance by including regular insults directed at President Trump and his Administration, at one point saying ‘I’m glad to be here, escaping the freak show back there’. Those who laughed – and most did – are just as shameful as Ms. Chapin Carpenter.
Fair play to Jon Voight though – he has a mind of his own!
On the other hand, Madonna, a woman who in my view incited hatred in her statement that she thought of blowing up the White House, has the audacity to apply to adopt two more children from Malawi. If this woman did not have pots of money, would she even be considered as an adoptive parent, given her advancing age, chequered domestic history and her statement inciting violence and hatred?
There are many childless ordinary couples in a stable marriage who are craving to adopt and would make the finest of parents, but the criteria are too stringent for their dreams to be realised because money is considered more important than unconditional love. It’s always the same old story….only money talks.
Has Madonna ever heard the word TREASON? President Trump is right to brand Madonna disgusting and disgraceful. Her behaviour is exactly that, especially her reference to the White House and her thoughts of blowing it up. I hope her thoughts in this regard will be taken into account regarding any more applications she makes to adopt more children. Surely the criteria should include respect for one’s country and those who rule it.
But there’s another leader that Mrs. Ritchie needs to prepare to meet; my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I hope and pray she’ll be ready to meet Him.
Also, the reported response from Charlotte Church to the gracious invitation by Donald Trump to sing at his inauguration was shameful. She is reported to have responded: ‘a simple internet search would show I think you’re a tyrant’. How disgraceful to react to such an honour with such an insulting response. Perhaps if this child star were to carry out a simple internet search about herself she would see what people think of her! In any event Donald Trump is the fortunate one that she refused as I don’t see how any performance by this person could have contributed positively to such an important ceremony.

Anyway, 20 January , 2017 brought us a day of great new beginnings and a step towards eradicating crime and anti social behaviour. May God bless President Trump and God bless America and please Lord make the world a safer place. And what a superb performance at President Trump’s inauguration by Toby Keith and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Toby Keith showed the world that he is the finest country artist living today. He really put the brattish has been Garth Brooks to bed…..by the way, he (Mr. Brooks) is the guy who cancelled all his Dublin shows because the authorities would not permit him to perform for 5 nights in a row. All or nothing he said, taking his tantrum out on all the poor souls, many of them elderly, who had queued all night to buy his tickets (why, I’ll never understand). Anyway, President Trump was BLESSED that Mr. Brooks and all the other has beens turned down his invitation as in my view their performances really would have let the ceremony down; the list of so-called entertainers who the media gloatingly reported refused invitations to perform at President Trump’s inauguration for the most pasrt have such inflated egos that I doubt if they would have fitted on the stage anyway.
I am reassured that the U.S. has inaugurated the best president since Ronald Reagan -and Ronald Reagan was, to many, the finest president ever. He took no nonsense and everyone knew that. For his eight years of tenure, the world was a safer place. Just like Reagan, Donald Trump is straight talking and does not put on an act just to please. What you see is what you get and isn’t that the best way for any person to be – especially a U.S. President? There is no need for the ordinary citizens of the U.S. and the world to tremble. The only ones who need to tremble are the enemies of the U.S. We must give Donald Trump a chance. He is a man who has provided, in his career, a mammoth amount of employment and as President he deserves some respect – at least unless or until he is proved guilty of wrongdoing along the lines of that associated with one or two of his predecessors in modern times……wrongdoing that was NOT punished.
Finally……President Kennedy, President Johnson, President Nixon, President Ford, President Carter, President Reagan, President Bush, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama …..all were referred to as President. So why can’t the media show a little respect and call President Trump President Trump instead of constantly just Donald Trump. He was elected fair and square and deserves respect. The Administration elected to run America are in place through a Democratic process and by comparison the synthetic world of Hollywood actors should understand that their opinions and self-publicising protests carry no weight whatsoever. The constitution maintains that the elected leadership run the country – not a coalition of over indulged entertainers who are too used to getting their own way all the time through their obscene levels of wealth.
Thank you for your thoughtful, considered – and considerable reply. We pray that the LORD, as He oversees, will protect and ultimately justify President Trump’s efforts. He has, it seems, been convicted by the media without trial.
Blessings to you, dear brother. And may the favour of man and God rest on us all.
America is a blessed nation, a Sheep nation and not a Goat nation as long as it stands with Israel… Genesis 12:3…
“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
That’s why it’s JerUSAlem…
The Holy Bible is roughly 30% about prophecy and I have become a student of Biblical Prophecies and Eschatology in particular…
THESSALONIANS 4:16. ( For the LORD himself ) shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of GOD: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: The trump of GOD is about to blast. This trumpet is the Lord himself Jesus Christ will blow the trumpet.
The Indian Christian prophet Sadhu Sundar Selvaraj had this vision…

So will GOD use the Donald as HE did with King Cyrus?… Isaiah 45:1 to 3…
45 Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;
2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:
3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
Will the Donald have crooked Hilary Clinton locked up or will the Democratic Elites have him assassinated before 20th Jan 2017 or soon after?…
Hello Henryk,
Nice to hear from you again. I’m pleased that you share your thoughts. These days are a journey for all of us. It would be good if you updated your comment… this is perhaps something you’ve posted elsewhere before the election. I notice that the end of the comment discusses events before the 20th January inauguration. Best regards, Sarah
As you may (or may not!) imagine, Sarah, I totally disagree with most of what you’ve said here. To suggest that a megalomaniac millionaire is the best choice to represent the people against the “elite” seems so strange to me. Christians voted for him because they think he hates the same things they hate — but I don’t see evidence of Trump having any real convictions beyond the desire for power and control. I think he would jettison any principle or person in order to maintain that sense of personal power to shore up his deep insecurities and immaturity. And I don’t think he cares two hoots about abortion, one way or the other.
Can God use him? Sure. I guess we’ll see how that all plays out.
As you suggest Jeannie, we shall see how things develop. Thanks for your frank response. I think many view Trump outside of the media manipulation while others see Trump as manipulating the media. Same man, different perspective of him. My great concern is that the dislike toward him is provoking anarchy, and for that there is no excuse. Like you I think we need to wait and see.
Thanks for your comment,
Sarah
Dear Sarah,
What great insight into this election and its outcome. You point out the very reasons that motivate my daily prayers for this man. I am convinced that God heard many of us over the past eight years crying for our country and pleading for God to act to restore it to its true vision and purpose in the world.
I could not add a single word to your analysis. I echo it, and I pray with people, in huge numbers I believe, who ask for Donald Trump to be protected by God and guided by God, because he appears to have been created by God for this moment.
Thank you for your post. I pray many may be inspired by it to join in prayers that this new administration will be a tool in God’s hand for his glory and our salvation.
Thanks for your comment, Katherine. It is disturbing that there is a wall which has been created between those who dislike Trump and those who are neutral or support him. The Christians seem to be on the wall, somewhat split. I know Believers who think God has brought Trump to the Presidency and those who despise his character or personality and don’t agree with that perspective. As for me, he may be the catalyst for good or for ill. The key is to recognise that God’s in charge.
