Preparing the Bride of Jesus Christ

What is Pentecost?

Tongues of fire rested on their heads. (Acts 2:3) They were baptised in the Spirit, spoke in various tongues.

8th of June 2025: this was Pentecost for this year.

What is Pentecost?

Jesus rose again on the third day. He went to the Father and then returned and spent 40 days with His disciples on earth. Then, He ascended into heaven, promising before he ascended that the Holy Spirit would come after Him. (Acts 1:4) Ten days passed.

Fifty days after Jesus rose from the dead, the Holy Spirit came upon the 120 disciples in the Upper Room. Tongues of fire rested on their heads. (Acts 2:3) They were baptised in the Spirit, spoke in various languages — tongues. This was the beginning of the Acts of the Holy Spirit. Jesus had fulfilled His promise to send the Comforter!

A new life sprang forth, a new life for the body of Believers in the Messiah. The day this began is called Pentecost. Penta means 5. 50 days from the miracle of the Resurrection came the miracle of the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost is rooted in Jewish tradition

If you have a look at the post “Pentecost Roots and Traditions” you’ll hear a brief explanation of the roots of Pentecost going back to the Feast of Weeks, which foreshadowed in Leviticus 23:15-17: Pentecost.

Feast of Weeks marks the giving of the Law to the Hebrews. Pentecost marks the giving of the Spirit to put His Law on human hearts. Jeremiah 31 promises it and Hebrews 8 declares it:

“this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”

A Promise fulfilled

Jesus calls us to worship the LORD in Spirit and in Truth. (John 4:24)

He said He must go in order that the Spirit could come. (John 14)

He promises the Comforter. (John 14:16)

With Pentecost, the prophetic foreshadowing from the Law is fulfilled. With Pentecost, a unity between Jew and Gentile is established. With Pentecost, we are empowered to do all that Jesus has done and has called us to do.

“Go into all the word…” Preach the Gospel, pray for the sick, see that they are healed.

Amen.
