The Power of the Word of the LORD

May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble;
May the name of the God of Jacob defend you;

Reading Psalm 20 this morning, while also an online prayer meeting, I suddenly had a depth of insight I’d never really had… The power of the Word of GOD astounded me.

I’ll try to explain my experience.

Psalm 20:

May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble;
May the name of the God of Jacob defend you;

May He send you help from the sanctuary,
And strengthen you out of Zion;

May He remember all your offerings,
And accept your burnt sacrifice.  Selah

May He grant you according to your heart’s desire,
And fulfill all your purpose.

We will rejoice in your salvation,
And in the name of our God we will set up our banners!
May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.

Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed;
He will answer him from His holy heaven
With the saving strength of His right hand.

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.

They have bowed down and fallen;
But we have risen and stand upright.

Save, Lord!
May the King answer us when we call.

A nudge

I felt a nudge to pay attention; the LORD wanted me to be aware of Him. I paused my reading, I turned my attention to Him. I paused, I pivoted —

And then the print impressed upon me the value of the words.

“He will answer from from His holy heaven.” He will answer.

Speak this into being

Jesus said, by faith we’d move mountains. But still, they are intact.

I think as I read this Psalm silently, whist another was praying aloud, I felt a gentle nudge that awakened my attention to what there in this psalm and had I not taken heed, I’d have missed it…

The person praying was speaking of world governments and circumstances of tension at the present time; as I was reading, “May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble” I recognised the power of the Word of GOD over our prayers. We just need to speak them, apply them, believe them.

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our GOD…” and the prayer is complete.

I understood that the LORD’s very name towers in strength compared to absolutely every armament ever conceived.

“The word of the LORD is living and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword…” (Hebrews 4:12)

Isn’t it though.

And so

To apply GOD’s word faithfully, acts as a seal to our prayers. We ask, we trust, we apply His word, just as Jesus did in the desert against Satan’s effort to entice Him away from the LORD. He told the fig tree it would no longer bear fruit, and it dried up.

And to apply GOD’s word faithfully, acts as a summons to the devil to bow down before Him, to back off… to obey.

So when we pray

We pray to GOD “Thy will be done…” and it will be done. Believe and be empowered to the level with which the LORD has equipped you.

And always, ask for more faith! It is a gift of Holy Spirit. It can’t be whipped up. But it can be poured out. Let us all ask for more, and expect, and await its coming.

More faith — more mountains moved!

Amen
