Praying for government

We must pray for our leaders

“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same.” (Romans 13:1-3)

I believe 100% that praying for government is a responsibility and a duty all Believers share.

Preparing the Bride for GOD’s Story

How do we prepare as the Bride of Christ? One aspect is to learn GOD’S STORY. He created us in His image…. Piece by piece, and peace by peace, we learn to walk as He has walked. And we learn His perspective.

Governments are not always what we want

Although politics is often not an easy discussion point and friends have become enemies (hopefully only temporarily) over such discussions, as followers of Jesus we are given some guidelines:

“Render unto Caesar what is due to Caesar…” Yes we must pay our taxes:)

“Be subject to the governing authorities” Yes, we must obey the law of the land.

We are also called to pray for our leaders:

“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour,” (1 Timothy 2:1-3)

There is a reward

As we pray for the leaders of the land, we are promised a quiet and peaceable life.

There are governments we might prefer and others we might despise, but we must pray… and intercede… for all in authority over us.

We cannot afford to ignore politics in these darkening times. Satan loves to stir dissent and so we must do battle against the whiles of the enemy.

Covering ourselves

We can pray without ceasing.

We can use Ephesians 6:10-18 and stand for our nations.

We can ask others — our pastoral leaders, other prayer warriors —  to cover us as we battle for the lost and for the nations.

But I believe firmly, we must pray. It’s nearly election time… No more important time to pray! GOD’s will be done. Hallelujah and Amen.
