GOD’s STORY: part 171 The Dream

The Dream

We come to perhaps the most catalytic dream ever… because Joseph has a dream – two dreams in fact. Then he shares them, which sets in motion the rest of his life, the salvation of his family, and the beginning of the trajectory like no other trajectory in the history nations!

Preparing the Bride for GOD’s Story

How do we prepare as the Bride of Christ? One aspect is to learn GOD’S STORY. He created us in His image…. Piece by piece, and peace by peace, we learn to walk as He has walked. And we learn His perspective.

Genesis 37:5-11

“Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more. He said to them, “Hear this dream that I have dreamed: Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and stood upright. And behold, your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf.” His brothers said to him, “Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.

“Then he dreamed another dream and told it to his brothers and said, “Behold, I have dreamed another dream. Behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to the ground before you?” And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the saying in mind.”

The dreams are obviously about Joseph’s ultimate rule over the others. They don’t like it… and yet, his father didn’t toss the dreams aside but “kept the saying in his heart.” As annoying as Joseph was to the others, his father had the wisdom to know GOD could do anything.

The Key

The key to these dreams is simple: they come in a pair and so GOD seals the dream with another, where the family fate will lead the older brothers to bow to the younger.

And in fact, the whole universe (or world as they knew it to be as representative in the moon and stars) would bow to Joseph.. which did as the known world would come, ultimately, to him for food.

Why this matters

If Joseph had ignored the power and truth in prophetic dreams, he’d not have warned Pharoah of an impending famine; he’d not have rescued Egypt and the known world from that deadly famine.

The prophetic is an offering from GOD. We need to recognise it today: its power, its goodness, its truth for those of us who can receive it.

Yes, of course the prophetic needs to be tested today. But the prophetic, and the prophet as part of the five fold ministry of Jesus (Ephesians 4:11), is a vital part to the fellowship of Believers. We have been ignoring, denying, refuting, distrustful of this for far too long. We see in the unfolding story of Joseph how what may seem an annoyance is actually a life-saving truth that needs addressing.

“Study to show yourself approved” (2 Timothy 2:15) and seek to prophecy (2 Peter 1:21) and of course, test the spirits (1John 4).

Enjoy now, as the next few posts will be an unraveling of Joseph’s story.

Torah Portion Examined

What about Prophetic Dreams: sample the Torah Portion of Genesis 41

There has been a lot of dreaming and posting of dreams by current prophets. What about prophetic dreams? Can we rely upon them?

God reveals to Joseph, who in turn interprets dreams

This week’s Torah Portion includes Genesis 41: Pharaoh’s dreams and Joseph’s release from prison to interpret them.

It prompts me to consider the wealth of prophetic dreams that have been posted in recent months and weeks surrounding the November election in the United States.

When Joseph interpreted dreams, it yielded immediate fruit. It seemed the dreams came from GOD and GOD gave deliverance through the interpretation of them.

What about the prophecies today?

Are they of GOD? Do they bear godly fruit?

There has been such an abundance of the prophetic that I have deliberately not kept up. I gather there were numerous prophecies claiming victory for President Trump. These have been dampened by the facts. And now we wait, because nothing is yet concluded, irrespective of what the mainstream Trump-hating media might like to proclaim. Although they claim Trump’s claims of election fraud are baseless, so equally it can be said that the media’s proclamations of a Biden victory are premature at least, baseless they may prove to be, ironically.

So what do we make of the contemporary prophets? Is it too soon to tell? Are they false prophets? Have they been misguided? Are they cheats?

I would not wish to judge or assume these men and women are false. They may be in error, or time will reveal they are correct. Or perhaps GOD has allowed them to see the election outcome wrongly; remember Ahab listened to his 400 prophets who had been deliberately deceived rather than listen to Micah (2Kings 22).

So, what shall we do about the prophetic voice today?

Listen, take stalk, wait, and do not be disheartened. It is not the prophet we must follow and rely upon but GOD alone. So, each of us must ask our Father to share with us personally: What are you saying, LORD? What are you doing, LORD?

And then each of us listen to the still, small voice for himself.

In the meantime, Psalm 46 is a huge encouragement… “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble…” As we meditate on this Psalm, Yehovah Father GOD will reveal more of Himself to us.
