GOD’S STORY: How Society emerged

Genesis 5 sites the genealogy of Adam all the way to Noah. On the last post I jumped forward from Seth to Noah, because I wanted to touch on the complete corruption of mankind. After the birth of Adam’s son Seth and his son Enosh, “men began to call on the name of the LORD” (Genesis 4:26). Yet, by the time of Noah, all of humanity had become unrighteous — except Noah.

What about the in-between? Where did society come from? This post is about how society emerged from Adam and Eve and their two sons, Cain and Seth.

Preparing the Bride for GOD’s Story

How do we prepare as the Bride of Christ? One aspect is to learn GOD’S STORY. He created us in His image…. Piece by piece, and peace by peace, we learn to walk as He has walked. And we learn His perspective.

How society emerged

“This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God.He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created. And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters.” (Genesis 5:1-4)

Adam lived a very long time. As you will see as you read through Chapter 5 of Genesis, the lifespan of all those recorded was hundreds of years.

Before the flood, mankind had great longevity, almost a thousand years. Only after the flood, do we see life expectancy gradually diminishing.

Moses lived 120 years: 40 years in Egypt, 40 years in Moab, 40 years in the wilderness.

Simple explanation

Humanity developed from Adam and Eve as the first persons on the earth. They had children, their children had children, and so on. As Adam lived hundreds of years, this is a simple and viable explanation…. However, if that’s the case, where did the sons of Adam find their wives?

One last question in my mind

Where Cain found is wife is a question I still ponder. He had a wife after he left the Garden. Where did she come from? And Lamech had two wives (Genesis 4:19). Where did he find them?

The only explanation I can come up with is time lag. The time from which Cain was sent from GOD after murdering his brother Abel, to marrying, may well have been hundreds of years, plenty of time for Adam and Eve to have more children. Does that mean that Cain married his sister? Yes, it would imply that. But this would have been before the Law and before the concept of incest. Procreation had to have emerged from Adam and Eve and the origin of mankind and society from them.

That’s my take. Any other suggestions are most welcome. I always field and reply to your comments.
