September – offers a fresh start
‘Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on…’ (Philippians 3:13-14)
I used to be a teacher, and before that a student, and before that, a pupil… You get the idea. For years, from age 5 to 30 I was “in school” of a sort.
Times of New Beginnings
There are certain times of year that mark “New Beginnings” — opportunities for a fresh start: 1st January, Birthdays (whenever they may be), April – which marks the tax year for many, and September – that commences the school year in many countries. A Jewish Start is unique because of their calendar, marking the new year in the month of Abib — March/April time.
What to do with this fresh start?
As I press into this new month, this new September, my thoughts are these:
Where is GOD in your new beginning? In mine?
“Jesus is the centre of it all…” is a song that springs to mind, which some of you will recognise.
Jesus said the Father would send the Helper, the Holy Spirit (John 14:16) because Holy Spirit indwelling in us is better than Jesus on the earth. And so, with this New Beginning, can we mark it with a commitment to allow “more of Holy Spirit, less of me”?
That’s my aim every day. And I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide, lead, help us all in our walk with the Lord Jesus. Amen.
