The significance of GOD’s authority in us
“GOD stands in the congregation of the mighty; He judges among the gods.” (Psalm 82:1) Can you fathom the significance of this?
The LORD stands amongst the mighty — which means He has imbued us with might. We are mighty; we do not have to be simpering or apologetic for our strength! We walk in humility, but not false humility.
It is a fact that as we have His Spirit within us, we are great and mighty! We are distinct. We are princes — even kings of the Most High GOD, Creator of the Universe. We are kings and we are not to shy away from our calling…. We need to embrace it, to walk it out. In all circumstances, we are more than conquerers.
“Arise, shine; For your light is come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you.” (Isaiah 60:1) This is for all of us.
Herein lies a wake-up call (which is not intended to be an exhortation).
I can understand how so many of us think modesty and humility are demonstrated through weakness, apology, surrender and obligation. This is not so. Rather, we must look at humility versus false humility, in order to recognise within ourselves: who we are… verses whom GOD has made us to be…
Humility
Yes, we must be humble before Jesus. And there are situations, relationships and occasions when we must defer humbly to one another.
“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” (Ephesians 4:1-3)
But we are not meant to live our lives in quite modesty, denying our strengths, our giftings, our authority in Christ. How do we balance this?
False Humility
It is important to recognise our strengths and not to suppress our GOD-given personality and talent. Humility flows from recognising we are weak compared to the strength of GOD; and our power, submitted to His, is humbling, “When I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:10b) But to deny our capabilities or to be ashamed of them is not humble. I am so sad when I see someone oblivious to, or denying a gift, out of concern or fear it might not be humble. Let us not suppress who we are. That is false humility.
It is certainly true that the world and the enemy want to oppress us. Enough of that. Surely, we don’t need to do it to ourselves.
Own fear
Fairly recently, I began to sense a freedom to walk in the full authority the Lord has called me to. I admit I felt power within me being released, and it was a bit scary! But it wasn’t me who had the authority, but Christ in me. And although originally, I felt nervous with it, I realised I should not deny it. Fortunately, I’ve had some people around me, brothers and sisters in Christ, who have encouraged me. Praise the LORD!
The authority of Israel
ISRAEL: Why do you suppose much of the world hates Israel? Because it has what they want. But Israel has not been backing down, in spite of much pressure. They mustn’t, to preserve their existence.
Similarly, we mustn’t back down nor deny our identity or calling anymore.
Instead, let’s pray for our nation and for Israel, for our people and theirs. Hallelujah!
Summary
We can live so long in false quiet humility, either to avoid standing out in a crowd or because we’ve been oppressed, that we come to believe that to be who we are. But a baby doesn’t come out of the womb suppressed, rather he comes out wailing, saying, “I’m here!”
So, when people try to box us in — let’s not swallow it! They will attempt but we don’t accept it….. We don’t get offended but look at Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, and at the Creator GOD who created us in His image. We learn to walk on water over our situations, to “fear not” and “press on”. GOD has put us in this time, in this Age, for such a time as this. Rise up!
Every blessing,
Sarah
