GOD’s STORY part 98: Lot is spared

Although Lot proves an imperfect man time and again, we seek GOD’s faithfulness towards Abraham in that Lot is spared.

Preparing the Bride for GOD’s Story

How do we prepare as the Bride of Christ? One aspect is to learn GOD’S STORY. He created us in His image…. Piece by piece, and peace by peace, we learn to walk as He has walked. And we learn His perspective.

Genesis 19:4-11

“Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house. And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.”

“So Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him, and said, “Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly! See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof.”

“And they said, “Stand back!” Then they said, “This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them.” So they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door. But the men reached out their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them, and shut the door. And they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they became weary trying to find the door.”

What horror!

Can you imagine living in a city like Sodom? Your home city is a place where you daren’t put guests up in a hotel because anywhere but your own home isn’t safe for them. Imagine offering your own children for rape rather than enabling the rape of your guests. Can you imagine living in a city where you are known for your own purity, and your own reverence for what is right gives you a reputation for which you are despised? This is what Lot experienced in the place where he chose to live. What horror!

And what forewarning is there for the people of Sodom?

The people of Sodom press to attack Lot and while he is rescued by the men of GOD, the rest of the people are struck blind. Though they are blinded, they might have discovered the power of GOD and embraced Him.

GOD gives warning

Doesn’t GOD always give a warning before destruction? He is merciful. Anyone heeding the warning might have been spared. But although they stumbled around in their darkness, they did not repent. Like the Pharaoh of Egypt who was hard to the plagues (Exodus 7-11), the people of Sodom could not see their inevitable defeat.

Remember, GOD promised Abraham to spare the city if He could find 10 righteous men (Genesis 18). But there were not 10 righteous to be found.

And so to the inevitable…

When the righteous clash with the unrighteous, ultimately, GOD will intervene and will protect.

Lot’s daughters are spared, Lot is spared, and it is the guests who are the protectors of he who sought to protect them.

Just as Psalm 121:4 says,

“Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep.”

Bless you, brother. I haven’t heard of Blandina of the Bible. I looked her up and didn’t find anything. Is this someone you know? Or is there somewhere that Bandana is made known as one of Lot’s daughters perhaps?
