After years from leaving home in Ur, finally, Abram arrives in the Promised Land….
Genesis 12:5-8
“Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan. Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, as far as the terebinth tree of Moreh. And the Canaanites were then in the land.Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. So Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South.”
Preparing the Bride for GOD’s Story
How do we prepare as the Bride of Christ? One aspect is to learn GOD’S STORY. He created us in His image…. Piece by piece, and peace by peace, we learn to walk as He has walked. And we learn His perspective.
Where is Canaan
A study of geo political history shows that Canaan is what we now call Israel, Gaza, The West Bank, Jordan, parts of Lebanon and Syria.
Who were the Canaanites
Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Jepheth. From Shem came the Semites (Jew and other Asian peoples). From Jepheth came the Caucasians. From Ham came the Negroid peoples. Ham was the son who mocked Noah and was cursed by his father as a result. It was from this stock that the Canaanites populated the region as identified above, and because of their idolatry, GOD would destroy these people.
Long before their destruction, GOD promised the land to Abram. The Canaanite land then, became the “Promised Land”.
Abram travelled
How did GOD speak to Abram, and what did He say, we know relatively little about. But from this passage, we do know that GOD promised this Canaanite land to Abram and kept His promise.
Abram travelled to and through the land which was promised to him. He built an altar to honour GOD as GOD had honoured him with a promise,
“To your descendants I will give this land.”
GOD honours His promises.
