GOD’S STORY: part 129 Deal with the Devil

Neighbour quarrels with neighbour, although we pray for peace.

How can we find peace in the world?

There is so much controversy. Neighbour quarrels with neighbour, although we pray for peace. Making deals “in the flesh” is not a good way forward. To bring peace, we must choose carefully how we make peace. One non-option is to make a deal with the devil.

Preparing the Bride for GOD’s Story

How do we prepare as the Bride of Christ? One aspect is to learn GOD’S STORY. He created us in His image…. Piece by piece, and peace by peace, we learn to walk as He has walked. And we learn His perspective.

Genesis 26:26-31

“Then Abimelech came to [Isaac] from Gerar with Ahuzzath, one of his friends, and Phichol the commander of his army. And Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, since you hate me and have sent me away from you?”

“But they said, “We have certainly seen that the Lord is with you. So we said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, between you and us; and let us make a covenant with you, that you will do us no harm, since we have not touched you, and since we have done nothing to you but good and have sent you away in peace. You are now the blessed of the Lord.’ ”

“So he made them a feast, and they ate and drank. Then they arose early in the morning and swore an oath with one another; and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.”

Although we saw last week that Isaac was blessed in opening well upon well, until at last he was given leave to remain next to the well at Sheba without any further intervention from his enemies, I nevertheless go back to look at an interlude in between his well digging.

He had visitors and declared to them bluntly their hatred of him. Nevertheless, they smooth-talk their way to a feast, they make a bargain the next day, and “Voila!” Isaac gets to settle next to a well.

Deal with the Devil

Compromise in dealing with the devil is short-term gain but yields a long term misery.

Abraham made a similar deal with Abimelech. It proved useless. Dealing with the devil only encourages him and fans his flames of deceit, control and division.

Deals today

This leads me to make comment about dealing with Hamas over Gaza.

I won’t drift into opinion. I merely make the comparison: dealing with evil could not bring peace to Abraham, Isaac or Jacob. And it will not bring peace to the Middle East today either.

John 14:27 offers His peace…

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Every blessing, for your thoughts and prayers.
