Another wedding!
Abraham continued to thrive
Although a widower of many decades — over age 140 — once Abraham was assured that his son Isaac was well and not alone, Abraham started a brand new family. He remarried, had concubines, and he was ‘fruitful and multiplied’!
Preparing the Bride for GOD’s Story
How do we prepare as the Bride of Christ? One aspect is to learn GOD’S STORY. He created us in His image…. Piece by piece, and peace by peace, we learn to walk as He has walked. And we learn His perspective.
Genesis 25:1-6
“Abraham again took a wife, and her name was Keturah. And she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan begot Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim. And the sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.
“And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac. But Abraham gave gifts to the sons of the concubines which Abraham had; and while he was still living he sent them eastward, away from Isaac his son, to the country of the east.”
There is no limit to what GOD can do
The fact that Abraham began a whole new family, and in the natural added to the population of the earth, shows us that life “is not over ’til it’s over!”
Further, GOD did not finish blessing Abraham after the birth of Isaac nor after the death of Sarah.
The further sons and daughters of Abraham were not a part of the Hebrew nation but we do see evidence of their descendants in scripture. Midianites were one repeatedly mentioned people group, for example (see Numbers, Judges), and became an enemy of Gideon.
I don’t know why the LORD would foster this. There is so much about the LORD’s thinking we do not know.
We can expect the unexpected
But one thing’s for sure: in the realm of the Most High GOD’s decisions, when we follow Him, we will always be surprised and He never stops blessing us, His children. In fact, I’d say, He gives pleasant surprises to anyone, a follower or not, because He is a generous LORD who simply wants relationship with those whom He has created.
