A Pause
GOD writes His Words using the hands and hearts of mankind.
As we consider, at Chapter 23 of the first of the 66 books of the Bible, and as we look at the death of the matriarch of the Jewish — and therefore also the Christian — people, I’d like to take a moment to take a pause for thought…
Preparing the Bride for GOD’s Story
How do we prepare as the Bride of Christ? One aspect is to learn GOD’S STORY. He created us in His image…. Piece by piece, and peace by peace, we learn to walk as He has walked. And we learn His perspective.
Genesis 23:1-2
“Sarah lived one hundred and twenty-seven years; these were the years of the life of Sarah. So Sarah died in Kirjath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.”
Sarah lived.
Abraham lived. Sarah lived. Adam and Eve lived, Noah and his family… these people lived thousands of years ago. And yet, the common thread through all of these lives, all the way through Biblical times, and from the Dark Ages to the present day… throughout human history there have been those who have followed the one true GOD: El Shaddai, H’asham, Adonai: the Creator GOD who made the heavens, the Earth and those who dwell therein.
We have been strolling through Genesis. May I encourage us all now to pause: “Selah!” Can we look at the LORD with new eyes: Eyes which recognise the hugeness of our GOD and the tiny insignificance of humanity — except for the favour of this same huge GOD.
The Bible
The Bible is a huge book, full of family feud, salvation through faith, and the story of a nation of people favoured by this same huge GOD to look after His story: the Book. This Book discloses to humanity the way to exist for the betterment of all; it is the Story which, when unfolded, offers truth, wisdom, grace, peace and love, in spite of the turmoil, war, and evil that also exists.
Looking at this word reveals the Word who is Yeshua — Jesus, Saviour of humanity — who has the wisdom and kindness, the truth and the way to live so that coexistence is possible.
As we ponder the words of Jesus, as we ponder the thoughts of the Father, as we bear with Him in these latter days and catch the significance of every word as practical advice to follow and wisdom which will make life good, we grow and we develop a prayer life and strategy that cannot be beaten by anything or anyone who Is against this Truth.
I just ask this week: Let us be still (Psalm 46:10) and rest in His presence (Matthew 11:28-29).
Let us allow Him to speak deeply into our hearts. As we learn, grow and are transformed, GOD’s Story will enable us to grow into the persons He has created us to be, in order to contribute to His strategies and to do what He has created us to do — for the sake of humanity for such a time as this (Esther 4:14).
In Jesus’ name, I pray this for us all.
Selah
