Have you ever faced a situation, a challenge, or a circumstance, which although beyond you, you knew you simply had to stick with it? What kept you going was either blind faith or pure foolishness… or perhaps it was both. I ask you to consider that experience as you look at Genesis 22 and reflect on that situation.
Preparing the Bride for GOD’s Story
How do we prepare as the Bride of Christ? One aspect is to learn GOD’S STORY. He created us in His image…. Piece by piece, and peace by peace, we learn to walk as He has walked. And we learn His perspective.
Genesis 22:6-8
“So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together. But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!”
“And he said, “Here I am, my son.”
Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”
“And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” So the two of them went together.
Isaac spots the inconsistency
He is 14, he is well-versed in local culture, and knows his father well, knowing Abraham’s commitment to his GOD. Isaac knows about sacrifice, and that he and his father are on such a mission. So he asks a sensible question: “We’re going to sacrifice, but where is the lamb?”
Did he know it was he? Did he overhear the plan, or did he work it out? Was he scared or simply completely surrendered to his father’s leadership.
Isaac’s frame of mind is key throughout the events of this story. He cooperated with his father, and without that, history would have been very different.
Abraham is steadfast
From the moment the LORD told Abraham to take his son and to sacrifice him, Abraham has been focused and unwavering. With his faith, his obedience, his cooperation, we see his powerful commitment to the LORD and to doing His will.
Father and Son continue in the mission to sacrifice to the LORD
There is one objective: to see the LORD’s will done. Son trusts and obeys his earthy father. Father follows absolutely the will of his heavenly father. And so we see the unfolding of GOD’s will on earth through the lives of Abraham and Isaac as they head up the mountain…
