GOD’S STORY: part 107

It is a simple but a profound point: Jesus and His salvation is echoed throughout the Word of GOD. And here it is, all the way back to Abraham.

The Third Day

The most resounding echo in Biblical history, if not all of history, is “He rose again the third day”. (1 Corinthians 15:4)

On this Passover and Easter season (so wonderful when the Jewish dates and a secular/Christian festival that claims to represent the most important date in Christianity overlap), when we look at “the third day” isn’t it astounding that I should be covering Genesis 22:4?

Preparing the Bride for GOD’s Story

How do we prepare as the Bride of Christ? One aspect is to learn GOD’S STORY. He created us in His image…. Piece by piece, and peace by peace, we learn to walk as He has walked. And we learn His perspective.

Genesis 22:3-5

“So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off. And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.”

Abraham’s faith was extraordinary. On the one hand, the LORD has told him to sacrifice his son, and he gathers everything to do so… the wood, the heart for worship, the son (as the sacrifice). On the other hand, he tells his servants, “we will come back to you.” Extraordinary.

The main point

When does Abraham set off with Isaac? “On the third day”. What does that remind us of? Well, clearly to me, we look forward to Jesus and to Paul’s word in 1 Corinthians, and this sacrifice is referencing the resurrection of the Lord and Saviour, the Messiah, Jesus. After Jesus’ crucifixion, it is on the third day that He rises again.

It is a simple but a profound point: Jesus and His salvation is echoed throughout the Word of GOD. And here it is, all the way back to Abraham.

Blessings to you. Happy Passover, Happy Easter, and Happy Resurrection Day.

Hallelujah, the Lord has come, is here, and will come again.
