GOD’S STORY: part 102 Isaac!

Jesus is ever-present

GOD is not in a hurry

At long last, the LORD’s promise is fulfilled with the birth of Isaac.

Preparing the Bride for GOD’s Story

How do we prepare as the Bride of Christ? One aspect is to learn GOD’S STORY. He created us in His image…. Piece by piece, and peace by peace, we learn to walk as He has walked. And we learn His perspective.

Genesis 21:1-8

“And the Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had spoken. For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him—whom Sarah bore to him—Isaac. Then Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. Now Abraham was one hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. And Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me.” She also said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age.”

“So the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the same day that Isaac was weaned.”

GOD’s Promise is fulfilled

Isaac is born, finally, and Abraham circumcises him according to GOD’s instructions. Abraham is 100 years old. Sarah, who isn’t that much younger, is full of joy. She feeds and weans him and then Abraham has a party to celebrate!

After years and many words recorded, GOD fulfils His promise.

How is Isaac conceived?

What exactly does it mean that “the Lord visited Sarah”? In this context, the first thing I note is that it is the Lord, the Son, not the LORD GOD, the Creator who visits Sarah. This is significant in that it is the Lord who is the healer. It is the Lord who is distinguished as the Son (as opposed to the LORD, who refers to the Father).

And so, the Lord came alongside Sarah and “healed” her — restoring her the ability to give bear a child, as like a much younger woman. This is the same Lord who came in body to earth.

Jesus is ever-present

John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the word…”

GOD has always been: He is before time; he exists during time; and He will go on after time. The Alpha and Omega came to Sarah. He came to earth to heal and to teach His people. He will come again.

We never need to doubt in GOD’s ability to heal, to restore, to create and if necessary, to destroy. We are in safe hands when we trust in Him. His evidence is throughout the Bible, and continues through the words of His people today and always.

GOD fulfils His promises

If GOD has promised something to you, then you can be sure He will come through. It may not be in our timing — in fact it probably won’t be. Remember, “But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” (James 1:4)

And you can be sure He will fulfil that which He has promised and the story of Abraham, Sarah and Isaac demonstrates this absolutely.

Every blessing to you as you walk your own walk of faith.
