Well, well. We’ve reached 100 pieces to the jig saw of GOD’s Story
Just over 2 years ago, I felt led of the LORD to start GOD’S STORY. And here we are in Genesis 19 after 99 posts. This is a milestone, isn’t it?
Human achievements v GOD’s achievements
Well, I’m excited to have persisted to this point. And yet, we’re not even half way through Genesis. I wonder if this will be GOD’s Story of Genesis or of the entire Pentateuch? Only He knows… But here we are with Lot and his daughters. Has he reached a milestone?
Preparing the Bride for GOD’s Story
How do we prepare as the Bride of Christ? One aspect is to learn GOD’S STORY. He created us in His image…. Piece by piece, and peace by peace, we learn to walk as He has walked. And we learn His perspective.
Lot’s milestone
Genesis 19:30 says, “Then Lot went up out of Zoar and dwelt in the mountains, and his two daughters were with him; for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar. And he and his two daughters dwelt in a cave.”
Has Lot finally realised that a city is not all it’s cracked up to be?
From City dweller to Cave dweller
Lot has lost his wife, his family — except for two remaining virgin daughters — his wealth and his livelihood. At last, he’s come to realise the city isn’t for him.
And so he goes into a cave.
And then what?
Continuing to the end of Genesis 19,
“Now the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man on the earth to come in to us as is the custom of all the earth. Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father.” So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.
“It happened on the next day that the firstborn said to the younger, “Indeed I lay with my father last night; let us make him drink wine tonight also, and you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father.” Then they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.
“Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day. And the younger, she also bore a son and called his name Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the people of Ammon to this day.”
The Daughters fix things
Lot’s daughters consider their cave living, and reckon they won’t join a population any time soon. So, to keep the family line going, and to experience life as they would if they could marry, they devise a plan.
And so, like Sarah before them, the girls decide to ensure procreation. This is before the LORD’s law not to sleep with a daughter. So no law is broken here. But we know instinctively, don’t we, that this isn’t a GOD-intended outcome for sparing Lot and his two daughters.
Mankind always seeks to fix things. And my goodness, don’t we mess it up sometimes!!
