I have been watching THE CHOSEN, a TV series accessible to me, from Amazon Prime. In case you’ve not heard of it, it’s a series about the ministry of Jesus based on Bible scripture but also imagining the private lives of the 12 apostles He chose, hence the title “The Chosen”.
I’ve called this post, “What is the question?” Because as parents we are always seeking answers. But first we need to know what is the question our children are needing answers for, or the question we need to answer for ourselves to go forward as good mothers.
What is the Answer?
Many of you readers will know I am a follower of Jesus, by whom we are more commonly known as Christians (because that label has some negative mis-connotations so I personally rarely use it).
I have been writing “For Mothers” for many months and I don’t tend to discuss GOD much, because this is not generally the purpose or intention of this blog series.
However, I asked myself this morning, as a follower of Jesus for 40+ years, ‘Who are you, Jesus?’ — because watching THE CHOSEN has sparked a lot of questions about the personality of Jesus.
As I sat in my time with Him this morning, waiting, as I do every day, He eventually answered, “I AM — The Way, The Truth, The Life.” This is scripture in the Bible actually, and something He is recorded as having actually said.
The point is, no matter what the question is, He is the answer. He is love, He is truth, He is the way forward, He is the way to parent, He is the way to relate to other people….
He is Love, He is Peace, He is Joy, He is goodness, He is kindness, He is gentleness, He is patience, He is faithfulness, He is self control.
He is the way to discover and live out these qualities, and these qualities — these characteristics — are the very characteristics we want to display as parents, and want in our children. The Way to perfect parenthood, ideal motherhood, excellent friendship then, is by following Jesus, and is Jesus.
I shan’t say more. But it is everything. He is the answer to every question.
Blessings,
Sarah
