Travel
I have done a lot of travelling in my life. Much of it was unexpected. I never had a need to see the world, and yet, I’ve lived on 3 continents, in 5 different nations. And I’ve visited far more lands than I ever imagined I would. It’s been fun!
My son doesn’t like leaving home. Perhaps that’s because his home country changed 3 times. Settling back in England where he was born, perhaps he just doesn’t feel the need to explore.
What do we do when our child wants to / does not want to travel?
Usually, it is expected that a child would get very excited about going on holiday, exploring a new place — whether it be a holiday park, a campsite, a foreign country. But some children prefer home.
What to do if your child doesn’t want travel and you do? Or (s)he’s desperate to travel but you don’t have the means or you don’t have the flexible time to do it? What then?
Adventure is in the heart, it is a state of mind
Sometimes adventure likes or needs to stay inside us. We don’t have to meet our children’s every desire. In fact, that isn’t particularly good for them. Constant disappointment is too demoralising, but constant indulgence is not good for them either.
So, I reckon, we can fill our travel bug in lots of ways that keep us at home if necessary: watching movies (or reading books!!) that take place to foreign locations, or camping out in the back garden can be just as amazing as going far-afield.
Creativity and creative planning are a part of a mother’s DNA
So if travel plans don’t work out, we need not despair. We can explore unfamiliar places in other ways.
