For Mothers: Storytelling

Children love our stories.

Once upon a time

Children love stories. Children love our stories.

They don’t have to be poetic. They don’t have to be perfect, with a plot line, complicated characters, and intrigue.

They just need to be “the best you can make them.”

I used to tell stories about a muffin

The adventures of Mr Muffin. Or Gregory Muffin. Or — the muffin that was all alone on the shelf (getting stale). Or the muffin who crept off the shelf and walked through the streets. Or… whatever adventure Mr Muffin might have that evening.

My son loved the muffin stories. And we had fun!

Stories don’t have to be sophisticated

When we share a silly story, children are enthralled. And they laugh. And you laugh — Although you might be laughing at yourself, embarrassed and feeling very silly indeed, your child is entertained. And is building an imagination. And is having fun.

Enjoy your child, enjoy your story, and enjoy your time together!
