We live in a culture that recognises children as valuable and adorable. The world was not always so.
But the downside of recognising the value of children is a fear that we might damage our precious bundles if we’re too harsh with them. This is not good because, as I’ve said previously, boundaries give our children a sense of security.
We need to stand our ground
If a child is pleading, begging, nagging, persuading to have his or her own way, it’s quite important that we stick to our guns. That will give our children a sense of boundary and respect for us, which in turn gives them a sense of security.
If you believe that your first decision has been made with all the love and best will for your child, stick to your guns!
We need to respect our gut instincts
As mothers, we have a sense of what is right. Let’s listen to it and not doubt our perspective.
Who’s voice are we listening to?
Let’s not let our children be in charge. It’s too much responsibility for them and it abdicates our own.
Let’s learn to think before we speak our decisions, and let’s learn to stick to our rules. Let’s learn to stand our ground.
