For Mothers: Free from Shame

There’s no shame in being human, being fallible, being imperfect — because we all are.

For Mothers: No Shame

We all make mistakes. This is about how to live free from shame.

There’s no shame in being human, being fallible, being imperfect — because we all are. It is part of being human.

If you’re thinking of something in particular right now, you probably feel shame about it. Don’t brush it aside. If you’re in a public place, maybe stop reading for now, and come back to this when you have a private time, a private space.

The very best thing to do with anything you regret, any shame you feel, is to look it straight in the eye, say you’re sorry about it, and forgive yourself.

For our Children

When you do that for yourself, then, when your own child makes a mistake, a big mistake, you won’t shame them, nor will you allow them to get away with it (because if they brush it aside, they will either then learn to do wrong repeatedly, or they will learn to walk in shame, thinking they are stuck in it — which is like a ball and chain!)

You will be able to help them face their own mistake straight in the eye, with the tenderness you gave yourself. You will be able to help them to say s/he is sorry. You will be able to encourage them to forgive themselves.

We all need to learn more about walking in healthy responsibility for our mistakes, but healed — without living in shame — because we are simply aware of our humanity, our vulnerability, our mistakes, and our forgiveness.

Blessings to you:)
