Everybody needs mothers.
Mothers are a must in our society!
I was sitting on a bench, waiting for a train. It was recent (so it was winter). A young lady was sitting next to me. She sneezed, was sighing a little, and sniffling… like we do at the early stages of a head cold. I looked at her and at her coat.
“Why don’t you put on your hood,” I said gently. “To ward off the head cold.”
“Oh, thank you,” she said. She moved her long hair to one side and put on her hood. “I forgot I had a hood.”
Everybody needs a mother.
We live in a society where prolonging motherhood is frowned upon. Don’t we feel as mothers we’re supposed to let go to allow our children to make their own lives when they grow up? But looking around us today, didn’t we used to be a society where everyone looked out for our children? We smiled at the little ones playing, and shook our fingers to gently scold one who was acting up.
But today, much of that protection is gone.
So, when I asked a stranger, “Why don’t you put on your hood?” and it was received in the way it was meant, it was a nice moment.
Don’t let ourselves be put down for being a mum. Let’s play that part with all the love and gusto we’ve got. And sometimes we can even play a small part in some unfamiliar young person’s life.
