Call to Prayer for Government

Dear All,

I live in the UK and so I pray for my PM Boris Johnson. The Word says to pray for those in authority; we don’t have a choice. As to whether we like our leaders or not, it is compulsory to pray for our leaders.

I was listening to this song, The Blessing (starts 1 minute in).

And I had just finished a time of prayer. I was praying for family and for government.

And so I pass on this blessing from Numbers 6:24 – 26 and pour it out upon loved ones and also upon leaders.

Will you also, please, pray for our leaders? Whether you live in a democracy or a dictatorship, whether you are in war or in peace time, whether you like your leader or despise him or her, pray for them.

1 Timothy 2:1-4

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, …”

If Paul can urge others to pray for leaders, even those who have incarcerated him, then why cannot we pray for our leaders, fallen men and women who need the truth of the Gospel, the love of GOD and the hope of salvation, for themselves and for the nations they lead. In Jesus’ name, let us be humble, not arrogant, and let us pray.

  1. Hi Sarah,
A good word of reminder to us as Christians to pray for our government there appears so much disrespect & criticism of our leaders at this present time. But I can see no word in scripture about rebelling against the authorities apart from when the Anti Christ is revealed and the clear choice of taking ‘the mark of the beast’ is upon us.
