A Window into Prayer: a theory

Prayer is simple and yet also complex

I’m wondering why our answers to prayers are sometimes delayed.

If experience is part of proof and a guide to developing a deeper understanding, then I’d like to share an answer as to why prayers are not always affirmed straight away.

Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”

Well, what if you are praying something that is a deep desire, yet it is opposite to a prayer deeply desired by another person, especially if they are close to you.

Suppose you want a job in Los Angeles. But your mother is praying you get a job near home and you live in Alabama. Sometimes God can grant your prayer, but sometimes, I am thinking, he’ll wait until you and your mother’s prayers are more aligned.

God can do anything

He can grant or not grant any prayer He chooses. But often He chooses harmony for us and blessing.

And timing is important to him. Sometimes it isn’t the right time for answered prayer, and sometimes He needs us to get in line with one another before giving us our heart’s desire.

Family alignment

Our relationships are so important.

If a family is wanting different things, each seeking after God’s own heart yet each desiring slightly – or very – different things, then I am thinking: God is waiting for our alignment, not only with His will, but with one another’s.

“How good and pleasant it is when brethren dwell together in unity.” (Psalm 133:1)

Let us come together in prayer and let us seek the Father’s will. Then, He will give us the desires we so deeply seek.
